Irene Pierce was born to the union of Vergie Lee and Ernest Jackson Broughton on September 1st 1964 at Metro Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Both who proceeded her in death. Irene grew up in King Kennedy and attended Cleveland Public Schools. She Graduated from East Technical High School in 1983. There she met the love of her life and high school sweet heart Rodney Pierce. To this union three beautiful children were born Rodney Broughton (Te’Auna) in 1983, Rayshawn Broughton (Sharoni) in 1987 and Rodnika Broughton in 1990. She also took on the role of a “Bonus Mom” to Rodnell Pierce and Maria Wright. She married Rodney on August 23rd 1997 at Peoples Church of God in Christ.
Since the birth of her first child she was a stay at home mom, where she put all of her focus into raising her children, up until her youngest started school. She then began to focus on herself a little, she was accepted in a program called Cleveland Works where she learned valuable skills to transition to the corporate working society. In 1995, She started a career with Cuyahoga County working at Virgil E. Brown building for Child Support Enforcement Agency as an Information Processor. She worked this job up until her illness forced her out in 2024, totaling 28 years of service to Cuyahoga County. There she met many friends, that became family. Irene gave her life to Christ at an Early Age. Her prayers, faith, and beliefs got her through the toughest times. When she couldn’t say much she would always say “it’s in God’s Hands.”
Irene was the youngest of 6 Children of Vergie Lee, Ernestine Farris (Richard), Lewis Wright, Jerome Wright (Ann), Charles Broughton (Barbara), and Doris Ann Broughton. She leaves behind Five granddaughters, Shanyah Broughton, Ryan Broughton, Ramya Prewitt, Riley Broughton, and Rose Prewitt. She was well know as Auntie Irene due to the enormous amount of nieces and nephews she had and have inherited through marriage.
She loved line dancing, playing games, going to the casino, traveling and eating out. There wasn’t a line dance this woman didn’t know. Well known for her Tuna Fish and Mac and Cheese, those items were requested often at parties and different events. Irene would give you the clothes off her back, she was very giving and was never afraid to speak her mind If she thought it she was going to say it, and she didn’t care what anyone thought!
She was such a strong woman, she was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2015 which forced her to go to dialysis 3 times a week all the while she continued to work her full time job. Eventually the lengthy illness took over, and her body started to weaken. She spent quite sometime in the hospital the last months of her life. While continuing to fight and get well to resume the great life she had. We thank you all for the thoughts, prayers, visits, text and continued out pour of support during these times. We know she is in a better place. All hurt, discomfort and sickness is no longer. She leaves so many friends and family to cherish her memories.
