Jacqueline Bowden, Age 80, Passed on October 26,2024
Jaqueline Bowden was born April 6th 1944 and left this earth to meet her wonderful Savior on October 26th 2024.
The Person
Jackie was the oldest of 6 children and back in those days that came with lots of responsibility in which she cared for her younger siblings, as well as their home. This prepared her to become the wonderful wife, mother and grandmother she would eventually be. Jackie’s life like most had various trials and tribulations that shook her oh but CHRIST held her up with his right hand through it all! She accepted Christ in the early 70’s and her life was never the same!
These are adjectives that best describe her, Meek, Humble, Forgiving, Giving, Good Listener, Accepting (Non Judgmental) and Authentic. She was never the loudest or most noticed in a room but she was that sweet place that people came to for comfort, prayer, confidentiality and a sounding board.
Jackie had a passion for “People” which was demonstrated by her + 30yrs as a registered nurse. She retired from Huron Road Hospital where she cared for her patients with the utmost sincerity and compassion. She acknowledged leading numerous patients to Christ on their dying bed while also witnessing to co-workers. She formed relationships with various people in need and didn’t just talk about it but was about helping them in any way she could including housing family and friends when in need. She truly had the gift of giving herself and resources and modeled Matthew 25:34-36.
The Wife
Jackie married Garland (Les) November 16th 1994 and was his best friend and a loving wife to him for 30 yrs. They had a relationship built on love, trust and respect and lived peaceably with one another. They entertained family often on holidays and made many memories that will be cherished. Jackie and Les loved their grandchildren and cared for them all at one time or another.
The Mother
Jackie is the beloved mother of 3 children Lisa (with Jesus), Sheila (Scottie) and Brian (Marquita). She was a mother that disciplined in love, demonstrated and taught Godly characteristics and created space for her relationships with her children to be authentic. She broke through old parental paradigms of her childhood of “speak when spoken to”, “be seen and not heard” or “this grown folks business”. She allowed her children to voice their concerns or opinions in a “respectful” way and took their feedback to heart. We didn’t always get our way but knowing that we were heard and that our mother genuinely cared about our feelings opened up a doorway for the openness and closeness that each of us shared with her which led to deep relationships that she probably didn’t even realize she was setting the stage for. Our Mother literally unclothed herself to her children and told us her secrets which made us in turn share ours with her without fear of judgement or condemnation. She was the quintessential mom turned friend to her children and will forever be loved, cherished and missed!
The Grand-Mother
Jackie is the beloved Grandmother of 6 – Dominic, Dorian (Danisha), Sundae, Cameron, Amber and Brian and the beloved Great-Grandmother of 5 – Amiyah, Dominic II, Isaiah, Ava and Gionni. “Spare the rod spoil the child” took a back seat when Jackie’s grandchildren arrived on the scene and then totally left once her great grandchildren came along. It was all about loving, kissing, and giving them pretty much what they wanted. Anyone who knew her knows how much of a pillar she was and the great impact she had in her grandchildren’s lives and how much she nurtured and cared for them until her last breadth. Her love, touch, caring and smile will definitely be missed!
The Daughter, Sister and Friend
Jackie is the beloved daughter of Lucy & Carl Kinney who are both with Jesus. Jackie is the beloved Sister of 5 – Carol (Johnny), Joyce, Carl Jr with Jesus (Joycelyn), Marsha and Henry. She was the oldest child and helped in the care of her younger siblings. Even with the age differences Jackie formed close and meaningful relationships with them. Everyone enjoyed the holidays, birthdays and other celebrations throughout the years especially the extravaganza’s put on by her
mother Lucy. If you talk to each of them they’ll share similar stories of her love, kindness, genuineness and their own special friendship with her. Her cheerful, gentle and calming presence will be missed.
Jackie also has several nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws and friends whom she loved and cherished to then end.
