James D. Massey was born on September 16, 1945. He was the eldest child born to the late James P. and Mary Edith Massey.
James was a lifelong resident of Akron, OH. He attended Seiberling Elementary and graduated from East High School. He immediately went to serve in the U.S. Airforce during the Vietnam War, where he completed a double tour as a military police officer.
He was a member of Phillips Chapel CME Church. James worked at Chrysler and then ran the family business, Massey and Sons, for many years until his retirement.
James’ hobbies included playing pool, bowling on the Phillips Chapel CME league. He loved riding motorcycles and working on cars. He also belonged to the Masonic lodge.
James was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Adria Sullivan; brother, Ronald L. Massey, Sr.; brother-in-law, Nathaniel Rodgers, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory his brother, Stanley (Louise) Massey; sister, Bonnie Rodgers; 13 nieces and nephews, 25 great-nieces and nephews, and a host of family members and friends.
