On July 31, 1935, the book of life opened for James J. Morrison. He was the only child to the union of the late, Grant and Mozell Morrison.
When we was seventeen years old, he graduated from Rosenwald High School in Sicily Island, Louisiana in 1953. During the summer of 1953, James came to Akron, Ohio for a few months. In October of 1953, he enlisted into the Army for 3 years. After his honorable discharge in October of 1956, James moved to Los Angeles, CA and stayed there for a few months before moving back to Akron, OH.
James confessed a hope in Christ and was baptized at an early age at the Pilgrim Baptist Church on Sicily Island, Louisiana, by the late, Pastor Martin Cooper. He later joined People’s Baptist Church where he was vice president of the Usher Board. Eventually, he moved his membership to Second Baptist Church and served on the Usher Board and was a member of the ICUA & Instructor.
James was employed by the federal government as a mail carrier for 39 years. In 1991, he received the James E. Brackley Award presented by the Akron Area Postal Council in recognition of his outstanding performance.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grant Morrison and Mozell (John) Todd.
James leaves to mourn his loss, wife, Annie Morrison; son, William Ray (Renee) Higginbottom of Atlanta, GA; first cousins, Agnes (Isaac) Turner of Altadena, CA, Juanita (Cliff) Simmons of Compton, CA, Elzie (Dorothy) Williams of Los Angeles, CA and John (Virginia) Lee of Los Angeles, CA.; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
