James Robert Porter Christian Sr., affectionately known as Papa, Bobby, Bobby C., C. Low and Smooth Drywall, made a peaceful transition to his heavenly home February 3, 2022. Born November 12, 1954, to Bernice Lee Mingo Christian and James Robert Porter Sr. James was a lifetime Akron legend, graduating from South High School. He was honorably discharged from the marines. James was also a professional drywall finisher and an excellent craftsman. He took much pride in his work and loved what he did. In his free time, “Papa” loved spending quality time with his grand and great grandchildren. He had a passion for roller-skating, playing pool and playing cards. He was also a proud Cleveland Browns fan.
His family was his air, and he was their heartbeat. To know him was to love him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice Mingo Christian; father, James Porter Sr.; sister, Cheri Christian; and brother-in-law, James Townsend Jr. and Timothy Townsend.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Mrs. Janice Christian; sons, James Robert Christian Jr. “Lil Cee”, Timothy D. Christian “Teasea” and Bradford Thompkins “Brad”; siblings, Herdy (Sallie) Christian, Brenda Christian, Cynthia “Cent” Christian, Donna Johnson, Donnie (Becky) Christian, Phillip (Roslyn) Christian, Tye Christian, Jackie Christian, Kimmy (Clyde) Weems, Karen Fears, Lamont Robert Porter, Lisa Annette Porter Wade and Minister Lori Porter; brothers-in-law, Darren (Tracey) Townsend and Anthony Townsend; grandchildren, Bria, Mia, Taia, Chaylin, Tres’jaire, Man-Man, Tim, Angel, Jamez, Knowledge, Tamia, Denim, Kenzo, Scarlette, Isaiah and Marlo; 5 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
