Janett Ethel Johnson was born April 18, 1936, in Collinsville, Alabama to Jessie and Georgette Greenwood. She was one of three children and accepted Christ at an early age.
Janett attended Gregory High School where she was crowned Homecoming Queen, played on the basketball team and graduated Salutatorian of her senior class.
Upon graduation, Janett pursued a college career at Alabama A&M University to study her passion in Education. She went on to teach high school students at her alma mater.
In August of 1957, while residing in Collinsville, she met and married James T. Johnson. They were proud parents of five children, Curtis, Walter, Vanessa, Anna, and Ivan.
Janett had a passion for people, she worked at Mount Saint Joseph as a nurse’s aide for over 30 years. She was also a top seller for Mary Kay cosmetics, earning her a trip to Dallas, Texas to meet Ms. Mary Kay herself.
Janett’s hobbies included traveling, she loved Las Vegas and going to the live taping of The Price is Right game show, shopping garage sales, playing bingo and dancing. She was also very creative and loved to decorate her home, especially for the holidays, and would spend hours in her yard making it beautiful.
Janett loved spending time with her family and friends, she loved singing to her grandchildren, “Go to Sleep,” “Jesus Loves Me” and “A Bushel and a Peck.” She maintained a welcoming home where many would come just to be in her presence, that’s the kind of gentle spirit she had.
On November 1, 2024, at the age of 88, Janett peacefully gained her wings. Preceding her in eternal rest, she now joins her parents, Jessie and Georgette Greenwood, siblings, Billy and Lillian Greenwood, son, Curtis Johnson, and granddaughter Rayvon Johnson.
Janett’s memory will remain in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those who were honored to have had the privileged of knowing her. Her legacy will live on for generations to come, inspiring those with her kindheartedness, generosity, and unforgettable gentle spirit.
Janett is survived by her children, Walter Johnson, Vannessa Jones (Gary), Anna Corprew and Ivan Johnson, her grandchildren: Netia, Alicia, Davell, Jasmine, Ashley (Kyle), Alyssa, Ivan, Jarianne and Darius, her great-grandchildren: Derreck, Eben Avery, Antonio, Kylee, Zoey, Micheal, Skylar and Asher and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
