Mrs. Jennie D. (Strayhand) Orr was born to the late Rev. James W. Strayhand Sr. and Sirlena Strayhand on August 10, 1944 in Athens, Alabama, the 4th of 7 children born to this union. Jennie was preceded in death by siblings James Strayhand Jr. and Mattie Strayhand.
Jennie confessed hope in Christ at an early age. She attended several schools throughout Alabama and went on to graduate from Morgan County Training School in Hartselle, Alabama in 1962. Jennie attended and graduated from Tuskegee Institute.
While living in Hartselle, Alabama, she met the love of her life, Willard P. Orr. Willard and Jennie were married on April 22nd 1967, and moved to Akron, Ohio in 1968. Their union was blessed with one daughter, Tresha, born in March 1969. Willard and Jennie remained married, sharing 57 years of love, until she went on to be with the Lord in December 2024.
Jennie was a devoted member of St. Paul AME Church for several years where she served on the Missionary Ministry. She was employed by Rockynol Retirement Center for 39 years in the dietary department.
Jennie was known for her kind, witty, caring, and fun-loving personality. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family, friends, and church family. She also loved Christmas time, going to the local casinos, and was an avid football fan – she loved her Steelers.
Jennie leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted husband, Willard P. Orr; loving daughter, Tresha Orr-Prim and son-in-law, Jerome Prim; sisters, Mrs. Patricia Fullard (Dr. Jasper Fullard), Ms. Glenda McGregor (Frederick), Ms. Ann Hudson, Mrs. Sirlena Gooden (Dr. Clarence Gooden, Sr.); sister-in-law, Norma Strayhand; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving extended family.
