John Henry Jones was born on March 19, 1937, to the late Atlean and William Patterson. He was the third of four children. His siblings Blanche Bullock, John Paul Jones, and William Patterson Jr. preceded him in death.
He spent his childhood life in Louise, Mississippi, and graduated from Humphrey County High School.
On June 13, 1959, John was united in marriage to the late Mazzie Gordon-Jones, and to this union three children were born.
John joined the Glenville Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1961. He became an Elder in the church and worked closely on the Hospitality Committee with his wife.
He was a loving, caring, hard-working husband and father. He worked as a chef, baker, construction worker, and was also owner of Mahogany Construction Company. John loved to tell jokes and had a joke for everything. He was also known as The Bike Man, because he would often fix kids’ bikes in the neighborhood and give bikes away to children that did not have their own. Mr. Jones always spent quality time with his family. He helped care for his grandmother, mother, father, and his first wife, at home, when they had fallen ill, and continued caring for them until they transitioned from this life. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren on summer vacations. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading his Bible, and watching the news, western movies, and the Texas Ranger show.
For 46 years John was married to Mazzie Gordon – Jones, who preceded him in death. Remembering his legacy and cherishing his memories – his children: Regina Pickens, Brenda Wilkins (Richard), Belinda Boyd (Filandus), and Vernard Jones Sr. (Charlene and Debbie). He was later married to Eva Bryant – Jones in 2012, and her children are: DeVona Roseberry (Keith), Danette Batiste (Columbus), and Demetrius Bryant (LaDonna). There are a host of in-laws, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, Church family, and friends who have loved and will miss him.
The family would like to acknowledge Belinda Boyd, Vernard Jones Sr, Filandus Boyd, and granddaughter Jenee’ Boyd, for their dedication, patience, and strength while caring for our beloved father, at home, during the last seven months of his time with us.
