José Coleman was born on August 17, 1986, in Cleveland, Ohio to Angelia Coleman and José Ervin Sr. at St. Luke’s Hospital. José accepted Christ at an early age, then going on to attend and graduate from Cleveland Heights High School. José also attended LaBarberia Barber College and recently started school at Ohio Media School for Broadcasting. His deep voice was made for the airwaves. José worked various jobs throughout his life.
José made lifelong friends wherever he went, and was a calm and very relaxed person. He had a giving heart and a warm smile that would light up the room and made him a pillar among all his family and friends.
José had a deep love for music. José loved spending time with his grandparents, including watching sports with his grandfather. The special bond José had with his mother was remarkable; His mother was his backbone, advocator, and his best friend.
José was very intelligent, laid back, detailed oriented and very analytical. He would sit back, relax and analyze things in detail, which made him a great conversationalist, dispensing good advice to those who needed it.
José was also known for his unique style of dress that he inherited from his mother at a very young age, and especially developed a passion and love for shoes. José passed his sense of style and love of shoes to his 1st born son, Sy’re who will carry on his dad’s tradition.
José spent his entire life battling the painful disease of sickle cell anemia. His struggles propelled him to research the disease in depth and assist those who also dealt with the fight. José volunteered at Champs and at Rainbow Babies Children’s Hospital to help those with this harmful disease. He was a true sickle cell warrior who knew tons about the disease through educating himself.
José was a passionate but very private person. If you weren’t close to him, you would never have known he was battling such a debilitating disease as he always kept a smile on his face. José always walked with his head up high no matter what obstacle he faced – an incredibly strong person who brought light to the lives of those around him.
José leaves to cherish in his loving memory; his pride and joy; mother Angelia Coleman-Lee, stepfather, Kenyon Lee; his father José Ervin Sr.; three children, Sy’re, Kai and Nova; his grandmother, Hattie Coleman; grandfather, Walter (Sunnyman) Coleman who preceded him in death; his grandfather Victor Ervin Sr.; grandmother, Alberta Santiago who preceded him in death; his brother José Ervin Jr., who preceded him in death; his sisters Keneya, Brittany, Chloé, Logan and Di’Osha; his Uncles, Anthony Coleman (Gia), Victor Jr.; Aunts, Angel, Angela, Carmen, Gabriella, Roberta and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of loving friends.
