Joyce Marie Davis (nee Johnson) was born on February 12, 1943, to Natalie Lowe and David Johnson, Jr., in Akron, Ohio. Although Joyce had six beloved siblings, she was the only child from this union. She spent her early years in Akron, Ohio before moving to Cleveland to live with Juanita Johnson Lewis, her grandmother, and Virginia Johnson Wilson, her aunt.
Joyce attended Miles Standish Elementary School followed by Empire Junior High School where she met her dearest sister friends Shirley, Sheilah, Shirlene, and Sherri with whom she shared a close bond throughout the years. She later graduated from Glenville High School, class of 1961.
After graduating high school, Joyce began working for General Electric (GE) and married her only true love, William (Bill) Davis that same year. Their 58-year union blessed them with three children, William P. Davis (deceased), Monique Christian, and LeVine Ross, and two beautiful grandchildren, Tamia and Bryson.
Joyce left General Electric after the birth of her first child to devote time to her family and raising her children, whom she loved and greatly cherished. She dedicated her time to caring for her own family, while also providing love, support, and caregiving to countless others in their time of need. Joyce was always there whenever you needed her.
Joyce and William Davis joined Morning Star Baptist Church accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior and were faithful members for over 30 years. Joyce truly enjoyed volunteering in the Guest Ministry and attending weekly bible study sessions. She loved her church family dearly and rarely missed Sunday worship.
Joyce was an avid gardener and took great pride in decorating her home and yard each year. She had an immense love of hats and a strong flair for fashion. She enjoyed traveling, especially to the Mediterranean and Mexico, line dancing, the theater, exploring new restaurants, live entertainment, cooking, and most importantly enjoying the company of her family and friends. Joyce had an infectious laugh and a smile that lit up the room. She was such a beautiful spirit who will be deeply missed.
Joyce was preceded in death by Juanita Johnson Lewis (grandmother), Virginia Johnson Wilson (aunt), Natalie Lowe McLendon and David Johnson, Jr., (parents), William P. Davis (son), Bryson A. Ross (grandson), William D. Davis (husband), and Diane Rasdall (sister).
She is survived by her daughters, Monique Christian and LeVine Ross, her granddaughter Tamia, her siblings, Dianne English, Caprice Johnson, Dana Johnson, Rita McLendon, and the Honorable Jeffery Johnson; her nieces, Dawn (Jason) Dalton and Dana (Sophea) English-Mey, and a host of other family members and dear friends.
