Kattie Rose Chappell, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cornerstone of her family, peacefully entered eternal rest on April 14, 2025, at the remarkable age of 101.
Born on December 29, 1923, to Sally Swanson and Henry Dotch, Kattie was the second of two daughters, growing up alongside her sister, Florine. On April 8, 1940, she was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Earl “Honey” Chappell. Their union was blessed with six children: Thomas, Gloria, Emmett, Welton, Kenneth, and Earl Jr.
In 1941, Kattie and Earl relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, where they became devoted members of St. Paul AME Church. Rooted in faith and family, Kattie dedicated her life to nurturing her home and raising her children and grandchildren with patience, love, and unwavering strength.
A natural caretaker and homemaker, Kattie poured her heart into every meal, every lesson, and every garden row she tended. Her fried chicken, greens, and white cake were more than just meals—they were expressions of love, and staples at every family gathering. As an avid gardener, she developed an extraordinary knowledge of fruits and vegetables, becoming the go-to source for anyone with a question—because if you asked, Kattie always had the answer.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Earl, and sons Thomas, Emmett, and Kenneth.
She leaves behind a legacy rich in love and faith: her children Gloria, Welton, and Earl Jr.; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-great-grandchildren. Each generation carries a piece of her wisdom, warmth, and unshakable spirit.
Kattie Rose Chappell’s life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love a legacy that will continue to shine through those she touched.
