Larry Nathaniel O’Dell was born on August 14th, 1975 in Cleveland, Ohio to the proud parents of Anthony McCoy, and Rose Barkley.
Larry crossed the threshold of eternal life on August 2nd, 2024.
Larry accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age. He joined Progressive Evangelist Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor, Reverend Otis Spears. He and His brother Eric O’Dell were both baptized on the same day.
Larry’s formative years as he grew up, he was taught by his late loving and devoted grandmother Ruby Teague, late aunt Daisy Teague, aunt Dorothy Ward and his mother Rose Barkley. He was taught to love God, love your family, have compassion and respect for others and love yourself. He was nick named at an early age “Little Man” which he still bears today. This name was bestowed upon him by his uncle Louis Ward Sr. because he was often dressed like a “Little Man”.
Larry was educated through the Cleveland Public School system. He was a graduate of John Marshall High School class of 1994. Upon graduation, Larry attended the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio.
While in high school, he was known as the most popular, well dressed, top athlete, and also known for making many people laugh. He played varsity football at John Marshall High School. Larry continued his love for sports and his favorite football team was the Baltimore Ravens.
Some of Larry’s most memorable events were his weekly visit to the barbershop, traveling with his family and fiancé, playing spades, debating about sports, and attending the annual breakfast and turkey fried which were held on Thanksgiving Day. He valued the relationship of his friends and their families. His childhood friends were LaShawn and Cordell Finney. Larry was the best man at LaShawn’s wedding and the Godfather to LaShawn Finney Jr. He formed a strong friendship with James T. Elston, Mike Hart, and Erick Walker.
The love for his family was very genuine. His nieces and nephews called him uncle “Boom Boom” and uncle “Little Man”. At all the family gatherings, he was very entertaining by telling his jokes and making everyone laugh. During the Christmas Holiday, he made sure that every family member received a gift from him.
Larry’s last place of employment was at General Electric in Solon, Ohio. He worked as a warehouse technician.
As aforementioned, Larry loved God, his family and friends. He lived life with passion. One of his favorite songs were “Some Thing About the Name Jesus” and in knowing the name of Jesus, he knew that the best was yet to come. May he rest in peace and his legacy of love, kindness and laughter live on in our hearts and memories forever.
