Larry Newell was born December 10, 1950 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Willie F Newell (October, 1974) and Dessie Giles. He was the third oldest of 8 children. Larry, through the guidance of his parents knew Christ at an early age. He attended Bethany Baptist Church where he was baptized. As an adult he became a member of The Rock AME Zion church. He grew up on Parkwood and 110th however, hung out on 105.

Larry attended John Hay High School and entered the United States Army in January 1969 where he served as the Field Radio Repairman. He was stationed in Korea where he met many new friends and was honorably discharged in January 1975.

After returning from the Army he began working at Ford Motor Co. where he worked for 36 years before he retired in June 2007. Larry enjoyed riding Yamaha motorcycles and had a passion for cars (GTO’s). He loved dogs and would research all blood lines such as Pit bulls, Chinese Shar-Pei’s, Bulldogs, and Rottweilers. His passion led him to training and breeding dogs. He shared his passion of breeding dogs with his family and friends. For many years, Larry enjoyed camping with his family. They would take family trips yearly. He was also fond of fishing and hunting.

Larry met Sylvia the love of his life in 1967 where they dated until they married in 1971. He was a devoted husband and father. He cherished his children and grandchildren and his biggest joy was seeing them happy. Larry loved bringing family and friend’s together and often spent time catching up with old friends.

Larry departed this life and will be remembered as a kind hearted and lovable person. Because we knew him as we did, his sudden departure has caused our hearts to be especially heavy, yet we acknowledge the divine will of God in all events in life and in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Dessie Giles, Sylvia (wife), Robert Newell, Gennerah Woods (Aretha), Tiajuana Carey (Rasool), and Christopher Newell (Salena). Grandchildren: KJ, Malik, Cia, Chandler, CJ, Knea, Ebonie, Rashida, Robert Jr., Tan, Tierra, Reileigh, Lil G, Samia, Cierra, Ashley, and 19 great grandkids. Sibilings: Willie Jr (Bettie), Emma, Josephine, Stan (Arnita), Mary, Rick, and Joyce. In-laws: Leola, Pamela, Sharon (Jim), Faye, Freddie and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
