Leon Brown was born on January 19, 1946, in Louisville, Mississippi to the union of George
William “Jack” Brown and Dorothy L Gardner Brown.
He accepted Christ at an early age and attended various churches throughout his lifetime.
Leon graduated with a diploma from Louisville Negro High School in 1963. He relocated to
Cleveland, Ohio soon after graduation where he eventually went on to build a long-standing
career at LTV Steel. After over 3 decades of service, Leon retired from LTV Steel in 2001. His
work ethic and commitment were evident throughout his professional life, reflecting the same
values he carried into his personal relationships.
He united in holy matrimony with Rosie Bell Hughes Brown on September 11,1971. Three
children were born out of this union: Eric, Erica, and Cheryl Brown.
Leon was widely regarded as the patriarch of the family. He made it a priority to check in with
each of his younger siblings weekly, offering words of wisdom and encouragement that left
lasting impressions. His steady presence provided strength and unity for those around him.
A devoted father and guiding presence within his family, Leon is survived by his children: Eric
Brown (Dorcas), Erica Boyd (Damion), and Cheryl Brown. He was deeply cherished by his
siblings: Jack Brown (Betty), Willie Doris “Muffie” Mitchell (Jack), Harriett Murff (Carnell Sr),
Lacotta Brown (Dory), and Dena Brown “Bernice Jean”. He was preceded in death by his
mother and father, Dorothy and George Brown, wife Rosie Brown, sister Georgia Hairston,
brother Tyrone Brown, and brother-in-law Carnell Murff.
Leon Brown, 79, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025, at Ames Family Hospice
House in Westlake, Ohio.
Leon’s legacy lives on through a large extended family that includes numerous grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones who will continue to
honor his memory.
May the memory of Leon Brown bring comfort to all who knew him and serve as a reminder of
the enduring power of love, guidance, and faith.
