Leonard Dunnings was born February 15, 1950, and peacefully gained his wings on March 6, 2025.
Leonard was born in Cleveland, OH to Lillie Mae Dunnings and Joseph Gaines. Leonard was the third of three sons. Both of his brothers Nathaniel Dunnings and Michael Dunnings preceded him in death. He grew up in the Central and Buckeye area of Cleveland. Leonard attended East Technical High School, he quit school to work but did get his GED in 1967.
Leonard met his wife Carol in October of 1967 and their union brought forth three children. Lynnette J. (Rodney)Speed, Leonard D. (Allison) Floyd and Lyndale C. Floyd. Leonard gave his life to Christ in June of 1996. Leonard and Carol (Floyd) married in April 1998.
Leonard was enthusiastic about cars, whether he was buying them or working on them, including building engines. He would work overtime to buy cars and/or car parts. He loved going to Thompson Dragstrip in Thompson, OH, Drag way 42 in Norwalk, OH and Summit Dragstrip also in Norwalk, OH.
Leonard was a truck driver for Advance Lumber from 1977 to 1997, delivering lumber gave him an opportunity to meet construction workers that built homes and diverse types of room additions. He began to study distinct types of lumber to create and rebuild different structures. He consistently received bonuses in recognition of his continuous performance at Advance Lumber.
After leaving Advance Lumber he began working at The Home Depot in Macedonia, where his love of lumber grew even stronger. Leonard received awards for great service and attendance. He also received monetary gifts for years of service. Leonard worked hard to provide for his family.
Leonard had a comedic side that no one would believe. His candidness was well-known, a trait inherited by his children, especially Lyndale. We would laugh at the dining room table for hours listening to him talk, making jokes and funny faces. He often made us laugh until it hurt.
Leonard leaves to mourn his wife Carol J. Dunnings, daughter Lynnette, sons Leonard Jr. and Lyndale; two grandsons, Leonard III, and Matthew; his great grandchildren Kamari, Lennox, Bronx, and Apphia; two sisters Darlene Dunnings and Beverly (James) Stallworth and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and co-workers.
