Lovie Jewel (Carlisle) Mingle was born in Brundidge, Alabama on April 14,1946 to Pomp Sr. and Estella Carlisle. She moved to Akron, Ohio with her parents where she attended Akron Public Schools. Lovie graduated from South high School in 1964. Continuing her education, she entered the Cuyahoga Falls School of Practical Nursing, graduating in April of 1972 as a licensed practical nurse. She retired after working 29 years at Akron Children’s Hospital Neonatal Unit. She went on to practice nursing for 7 1/2 years at the Cuyahoga County Youth Detention Center. Having such a love for children after retirement from YDC, she returned to Children’s Hospital as a volunteer grandparent.
Lovie had a passion for baking and was well known for her lemon cheesecake. She enjoyed a good time with her family, especially when she got together with her sisters. She was always very particular about her appearance and was beautiful whenever you saw her. She watched the Wheel of Fortune, and did the Beacon Journal crossword puzzle daily. She was witty and enjoyed a good joke. Lovie was a daddy’s girl and often told stories about her father, Pomp. She encouraged her children to travel and see the world. Her soul was gentle, her heart was pure and her spirit was so sweet. She’ll remain forever in our hearts. She meant a lot to us (her family) and will be truly missed and loved forever. Lovie was strong, honest, and lived life on her own terms as a JEWEL. Heaven is truly blessed to have you; always had a way of making every moment special, filling our hearts with joy and laughter. Her unwavering support and gentle guidance will forever be remembered and cherished.
