Lucy Beatrice Dooley, nicknamed “Lucy B” by her southern relatives, was born the youngest of three children to Callie and Monroe Jones in Demopolis, Alabama, on August 20, 1926. She was orphaned at the age of four, along with her two brothers, and was raised by her grandparents, living with their eight children. She graduated from Demopolis High School in the spring of 1943.
She moved north and attended a business college in Detroit, Michigan, for two years. Later, she moved with one of her aunts, Miley Hinton, and her family to Columbus and eventually to Twinsburg, Ohio. Lucy married Marion W. Dooley, a World War II veteran, in 1950, and three sons and one daughter were born to this union.
Lucy held a variety of positions over the years, working as an operator for Ohio Bell, a home caregiver, and a daycare provider for children in the community. For over 15 years, she was a teacher at the Hudson Montessori School, touching the lives of many students and families. She was also an active and involved citizen, serving as a poll worker in state and national elections.
Lucy transitioned to her heavenly home on March 19, 2025, at the age of 98. As the Apostle Paul wrote in II Corinthians 5:8, “…absent from the body, present with the Lord.” Lucy would echo these words, having lived her life with faith and a steadfast belief in the promise of eternal life. As she often said, “…our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 3:20)
Lucy’s final months were filled with the love and warmth of her family and friends—both old and new. She reconnected with old friends from Twinsburg and Northern Ohio while also forming new friendships in Central Ohio. Since 2020, she had been a member of the Senior Center of Reynoldsburg, where she attended classes and social events. New friends at her senior living community helped her celebrate her 98th birthday, and a special friend and caregiver, Miss Elvira, provided companionship in her final days. Her life was a testament to the enduring relationships she nurtured throughout her lifetime.
Those who knew her understood that the depth and beauty of her life far exceeded the span of her years. In the words of II Timothy 4:7-8, Lucy can truly say, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.” Her gentle smile and witty remarks brought joy and comfort to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Lucy is survived by her beloved family: Audrey Jones and family, Eddie Dooley and family, Morris Dooley, and Jeffrey Dooley and family. She has eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Marion William Dooley, and her two brothers, Samuel and Riley Jones.
Lucy’s legacy will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Her memory will forever be cherished, and her faith will continue to inspire those who knew her. As we bid her farewell, we take comfort in knowing that she is now in the presence of the Lord, where she will dwell for all eternity.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
