Madeline Yvonne White, the second youngest child of ten siblings, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, the 11th of June, 2021. She went peacefully to her heavenly reward after a long illness, surrounded by her four loving children.
Madeline was born November 30, 1941, to Hugh and Pearl E. Holmes in Akron, Ohio. She attended Akron Public Schools and graduated from North High School in 1960. She later continued her education, earning an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Criminal Justice Technology from the University of Akron in 1998.
At a very young age, Madeline accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and has been a member of Hill’s Temple First Born Church of the Living God. During the past two years, our mother served as Assistant Mother of the Church, a position in which she was fully devoted until her illness no longer permitted her to do so.
Our mother worked in various positions as a caregiver. Prior to her illness, she provided respite care for the developmentally disabled for United Disability Services and, most recently, for Whitehouse Ohio Works.
On September 30, 1961, Madeline married the love of her life, Donald W. White Sr. Within this union, they raised four loving and devoted children, upon which they instilled a love of family and God. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, and the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always there to provide support, emotionally, physically and/or financially to anyone in need. Our mother was a God-fearing, fun-loving, vivacious, caring person, and an advisor to many. Her funny wit and charm will fill those who knew her with memories that will last forever.
Madeline was predeceased by her grandmother, Mattie Nelson; her mother and father, Pearl E. and Hugh; her siblings, Evelyn, Pete, Zach (Bernice), Mattie, Doris, Shirley, Norman, Herman and LaBarbara.
In her passing, she leaves to mourn her children, Cheryl (Michael) Washington, Dr. Donald White Jr., Angela White and John White; her foster daughter, Terina Jennings; her grandchildren, Symone Trahan, Toi White, Donald White III., Jordon White, Eboni Campbell, Dorean Campbell, Tyler White, Victoria White and John White Jr.; ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; her sisters-in-law; Peggy Holmes, Alberta Holmes, Doris Adams and Dorothy Mitchel; brothers-in-law, Jesse White and Samual White; and special friend and godmother to all her children, Gwendolyn Ricks, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
