Mamie Murphy was born April 5, 1920 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Her parents were the Late Willie Martin and Mamie Griffith. She attended School in Spartanburg, South Carolina and received her GED later in Cleveland, Ohio.
Mamie married Thomas Murphy Jr. on March 5, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio. Mamie accepted Christ at an early age and was Baptized on March 23, 1957 at Glenville Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Mamie worked at General Electric, Eaton Manufacturing and retired from Union Carbide in 1984.
Mamie Murphy was called home to rest on July 4, 2021 to be with the Lord! She preceded in death her son Walter Z Murphy and daughter, Shirley Collins-Goldsmith. Mamie Murphy loved spending time with friends and family, fishing and gardening.
Mamie leaves to cherish their memories her daughter, Vonceil Murphy, son, Calvin Murphy (Woodbridge, VA), three grandchildren, Antonio Murphy, Chez Murphy-Fowler (Atlanta, GA) and Darnell Goldsmith (Washington, D.C.), a God Granddaughter, Fatimah Shabazz, three great-grandchildren, Taylor Murphy, Ahmad Shabazz-Murphy, Nakia Fowler (Atlanta, GA), Jacob Fowler (Atlanta, GA), two great nieces, Sandy and Diane Murphy (Pittsburg, PA) and a host of other relatives and people lives she touched.
