Marshall was born in Minden, WV on May 17, 1941, to George and Victoria Smith, who preceded him in death. Marshall was one of five children. He is survived by his sister Lucille Montgomery of Cleveland, Ohio and those who preceded him in death, Gloria Shelton (Homer) of Chicago, Devota Kimbrow (Charles) of Maryland, George Edward Smith II, Oakhill, West Virginia, Mary Catherine of Maryland and Joseph Smith of Maryland.

Marshall Smith, age 82, passed away on May 16, 2024. His sister Lucille knows in her heart Marshall is in Heaven with our Mother and Father, playing with the Angels.

Marshall is also survived by nephew Fred Montgomery Jr. (Joann), and nieces Charlene Montgomery, Mary Grant (deceased), Lucille Holloway and Roberta Montgomery. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, grand kids and a host of other relatives and friends.

Marshall performed 27 1/2 years of Military Duty in the Army, joining the military early 1960’s. He served two tours in Vietnam. Throughout his time, he was recognized with 13 awards. The Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal with one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, 8th award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star with One Silver Service Star, NCO Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with numeral 2, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon w/Device (1960), and Army Aviation Badge Basic. He earned the titles of Chemical Senior Sergeant, Air Defense Artillery Sergeant, Sergeant First Class and at the time of retirement was a Master Sergeant. After retirement, he served 20 years as a Civilian working for the Army.

Marshall enjoyed bowling, was a sports fanatic, traveling the world, spending time with his family and was known by his great, great nieces and nephews as Uncle Grandpa. He loved sharing his experiences in the Military with those he loved. HIs favorite Charity was Veterans of America.

Marshall will be greatly missed but the memory of his life and his legacy will live on in all of those who loved him.
