Marvin J. Barnes, born on January 3, 1983, in Cleveland, Ohio, began his journey in a family rich with love and support. He was the beloved child of the late Marvin Jesse Ford and Nettie Elizabeth Barnes, their bond shaping his early years and character.
Marvin’s faith journey was a significant part of his life, and on March 26, 1989, he became a follower of Christ, embracing baptism at Starlight Baptist Church alongside his mother, Nettie Barnes.
During his formative years, Marvin exhibited promise and dedication in his academic pursuits. He attended Superior Elementary, where his excellence led him to the prestigious Focus Scope School of the Gifted. His educational journey continued at Kirk Middle School, where he proudly joined the Kirk Mighty Demons Football Team. Later, he pursued his high school education at Shaw High School and made the decision to enlist in the Marines, a testament to his dedication to serving his country. In 2001, he proudly graduated from Shaw High School and was honorably discharged from the Armed Forces.
Upon returning to civilian life, Marvin channeled his passion into a successful career in culinary science. He found employment at Case Western Reserve, displaying his culinary talents and expertise. Driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, he ventured into culinary business management, leading and inspiring others in the art of food and customer service. Transitioning into a different career path as a factory operative worker, Marvin demonstrated his adaptability and dedication, honing his skills in machinery operation over a decade.
Marvin found joy in being a devoted provider for his long-term partner, La’Keisha Mack, which led to the blessing of his beloved daughter, Jessica Maye Barnes, born on December 9th, 2012.
He was a loving son, brother, and father, embodying the compassionate nature inherited from his caring father, Marvin Ford. His presence served as the pillar that held his family together. Marvin found solace in sports, video games, and cherished moments spent with family and friends. His smile illuminated rooms, radiating calmness and assurance to all around him.
On November 5th, 2023, Marvin passed away, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Nettie Ford, as well as Uncle Ronald Ford Sr., Uncle Clyde Ford Jr., Aunties Mary Finley-Kocsis, Barbara Finley, and Phyllis Barnes-Washington.
Marvin’s memory lives on through his daughter Jessica Maye Barnes, sisters Nettie Barnes II and Nefertiti (Charles) Ford-Lenix, and a host of close family members, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and dear friends that resided on Knowles Avenue who shared in his life’s journey.
