Mary Ellis Gould, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and lifelong educator, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, with her daughter by her side.
She was born on February 23, 1941, in Ravenna, Ohio, and was raised in Kent, Ohio. Her life was defined by kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the people she cared for most. Mary Ellis devoted her career to shaping young minds, nurturing her students with patience, encouragement, and a deep belief that every child deserved to bloom in their own time.
Her compassion extended far beyond the classroom—she had a remarkable gift for making others feel seen, heard, and valued. Outside of her roles as mother, grandmother, and educator, she found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Gardening was her passion. She whispered to the soil, and it answered her in flowers; shopping for small treasures that brightened her day; and savoring her favorite snacks—Lays chips and a cold Pepsi, enjoyed with unmistakable delight.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Gould; her father, Emmanuel Peoples Sr.; and her mother, Hazel Price Peoples. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who survive her: her sons, Todd Williams and Christopher Gould, and her daughter, Eleanore Gould—each of whom brought unique joy and purpose to her life. She is also survived by her brother, Emmanuel Peoples Jr., with whom she shared a lifelong and cherished bond.
Mary Ellis is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren— Capri, Brittney, Taylor, Rohan, and Leonidas—who brought her immense pride and happiness. Beyond her immediate family, she is honored by a devoted community of relatives, friends, and countless students whose lives were shaped by her kindness, wisdom, and gentle guidance. Rest peacefully, Mary Ellis—your work here is complete, and beautifully so. 1 Corinthians 3:6 “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth
