Mary F Hampton was born in Statesville, NC to Mary Bell Beatty and Leon Feamster Sr. Nov. 24, 1925, both of whom preceded her in death.
Mary accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Center Street A.M.E. Zion Church in Statesville, NC where she was actively involved in various organizations of the church. After graduating from high school, she attended Winston Salem State Teachers College where she obtained a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education after her marriage to her childhood sweetheart, Henry Hampton Jr. To this union, two daughters were born, Valerie Hampton and Priscilla (Hampton) Hall. She relocated to Cleveland, OH where she continued graduate studies at Kent State University.
Mary was gainfully employed by the Cleveland Board of Education as a teacher for 28 faithful years of service, retiring in 1984.
Mary joined St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church under the Pastorate of the late Dr. Albert Fuller in 1952 where she remained a faithful dedicated member until her death.
Mary loved children and always encouraged them to strive for perfection. She used her musical talent through her many years at St Paul as the directress and pianist for the Buds Choir for 43 years. She also served as the church Sunday school teacher for many years. She sang with the Sanctuary Choir, Missionary Society Supervisor of Vacation Bible School, and was a member of the Cleveland Teachers Union.
She leaves to mourn her passing two daughters Valerie Hampton and Priscilla (Richard) Hall, three granddaughters Shaina (Lindsey) Tufts, Shaun Allison, and Ashley Hall; 6 great grandchildren, Aaron Hall, Milan Brady, QuaShaun Hall, Ramon Allison Jr, Aaliyah Hall, Jaden Marzouk; brother William (Lena) Pickens of NC; God-Children, Floyd McCutcheon, Kimberly Freeman, E.J. Freeman, honorary grandmother to many and a host of family and friends.
