Mr. Matt “Son” Tibbs was the third child born to the late Matthew Tibbs, Sr. and Lennie Turner Tibbs on January 2, 1941. Son departed this life on July 26, 2016 at The Kindred On The Greens in Lyndhurst, Ohio.
Through his life work, it was easy for him to let his “little light shine.” Matt accepted Christ at an early age and united with Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Toney, Alabama. Matt was very hard working; he worked for Corky & Lenny for forty-six years. Matt loved helping people in the neighborhood; he loved gardening and, most of all, fishing. One day, he was fishing at the Lorain Municipal Pier for Walleye and that day he made history. Instead of catching a walleye, he yanked in something that neither he nor the Ohio State Wildlife had ever seen before. When the article was written in the newspaper, it said “that it was a flesh eating piranha of South America. Tibbs’ Piranha was 16 inches long and weighed 2 ½ pounds; never had a fish of this kind ever been caught in the Lake Erie.” This is not a fishermen tail.
Matt will be missed by his family.
He was married to Ms. Bertha Matthews Houston and to this union, two children were born.
On rare occasions, someone special would come into our lives leaving a lasting impression on our hearts. In the lives of his son, daughter, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, sister-in-law’s, brother-in-law’s, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, Son was a special someone and he will forever be a part of those who love him.
Matt is survived by a loving and supportive family, his daughter, Angela Tibbs of Huntsville, Alabama and his son, Calvin Matthew Tibbs of Harvest, Alabama; five sisters, Helen Tibbs Wilson of Birmingham, Alabama, Fannie Tibbs Leslie (Clarence) of Louisville, Kentucky, Nelcine Tibbs Robinson (Archie) of Harvest, Alabama, Patricia Tibbs Betts (Roger, Sr.) of Toney, Alabama, Wanda Tibbs of Los Angeles, California and Alicia Tibbs Tolson (John) of Mont Peleir, Maryland; four brothers, Elbert Lewis Tibbs (Mildred) of Harvest, Alabama, James Henry Tibbs (Edna) of Toney, Alabama, Donald Tibbs (Elnoria) of Cleveland, Ohio, Bobby Leon Tibbs (Ester) of Gainesville, Florida; a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews; a special friend, Carolina Dymek and other relatives and friends.
