Maxine Jordan was born October 31, 1953, in Pell City Alabama, to the late Alberta Gordon and Sam Jordan. Maxine was the oldest of six children. She came to Cleveland, Ohio in 1958 to be with her mother. She attended Mary B. Martin Elementary School, and Audubon Jr. High School, and graduated from John Adams High School in 1973. Maxine worked as a school crossing guard and lunch aid for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District at Boulevard Elementary School.
On September 29, 1981, Maxine and John Hill brought their only daughter Tomesha into the world. Maxine followed in her mother’s footsteps and entered the Healthcare field where she became an STNA. She worked at Baldwin Manor Nursing Home, Willow Park, Franklin Plaza, and Lakewood Senior Health Campus. She had a passion for taking care of people. She also took the bus daily to care for her Aunt Kate when she fell ill.
Maxine worked in the Healthcare field from 1987 through 2014, babysitting and caring for her family never stopped.
Maxine wore many hats when it came to her nephews and nieces – she was the caretaker, babysitter, hair braider, and potty trainer of her cousin’s son. One of her favorite lines to tell the kids was GO TO BED as her nephew Jim would say “ALL MAC-HEEN SAY IS GO TO BED.”
She was the person everyone could count on. She was stern and a little stubborn and always minded her own business. You could always tell her your problems no matter what it was without her being judgmental, and she always did what she could to help. In her pastime, Maxine loved reading books and baking cakes. Her homemade Hershey’s Cocoa icing on the chocolate cake was made to perfection.
On September 29, 2022, Maxine was diagnosed with Uterus Cancer, then, in July of 2023, was diagnosed with Leukemia. She fought a good fight. She was a strong and determined woman. On October 2, 2024, at 6:00 am, God prepared a space for her in his mansions and sent His Angels to carry her home. NO MORE PAIN.
