Michael Andrew Knuckles was born on April 18, 1951, to late Andrew and Odessa Knuckles, both whom preceded him in death. Michael was the fifth of six children, Jeanette Martin the only surviving sibling, and four who preceded him in death, Carol Hunt, Loretta Knuckles, Gary Knuckles and Larry Knuckles.
In 1984 Michael met his wife, Essie McCarver. They married January 19, 2985. Under this union eight children made their lives complete. Sherrelle Knuckles, Rashun McCarver, Leonard McCarver, Markita Knuckles, Ramon Rodriguez, Roberto Rodriguez, Lance Graham, and Amari Morris.
Rev. Knuckles accepted Christ at an early age as he continued to work in the faith and follow the Lord’s work becoming an associate minister until his health declined. Michael was ordained as an associate minister of St. Teresa Holiness Science Church under the late Pastor and Overseer, Rev. Dr. Jennie B. Vaughn in 1986. Michael always spoke the word of God, wherever he was, and his faith kept him grounded in serving the God. He was a devoted Sunday School teacher both at his church and at Shaker Gardens where the residents appreciated his ministry and teaching.
Michael was educated in the Cleveland Public School District. He attended Kinsman Elementary School, Rawlings Junior High School and a graduate of East Technical High School. After graduation, Michael began working at Mount Sinai Hospital until it closed. He then continued his career at University Hospital. Michael retired June 07, 2017, when he became ill within that same month. His wife and family continued to help him rehabilitate until he required skilled nursing care.
On July 17, 2023, early Monday morning, he gained his entrance into heaven. Michael will forever be missed. But memories of Michael will stay forever in our hearts. We will cherish his favorite saying, “Boy you lie like a Rug.” And one of our favorite memories, “Shirley” the belt that often scared the kids.
