Michelle Satoyia Bibbs-Dancy was born October 3, 1972, in Cleveland, Ohio to Barbara Bibbs and Michael Berry. From the day she was born, she exhibited the soft nature of her grandmother, the late Delia Bibbs. Michelle radiated kindness, strength, and grace. She carried these qualities with her throughout her life, touching everyone she met.
Michelle was christened at three months and accepted her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of 12, at Faith Temple Baptist Church. She served under three pastors, including the late Robert Hubbard, Rev. Daughtry, and the late Bishop John W. Thompson Jr.
Michelle was a child model with Super Kids where she was assigned to appear in commercials and publications throughout Ohio. She was recognized at age 12 as a young playwright and won an award with The Marilyn Bianchi Young Playwrights Festival among 300 entries.
Michelle graduated from Shaw High School in East Cleveland, Ohio in 1991, where she received her Nursing Assistant Certificate upon graduation. Michelle switched her focus and began attending college at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), studying Early Childhood Education.
She went on to work in both fields holding positions at McGregor Nursing Home for eight years and utilizing her Early Childhood Education studies working for Ministerial Headstart, Children First, and CEOGC until retiring due to illness. She continued to work with her mother’s organization, Jamocha Arts Center as an assistant where she learned how to write grants, organize youth field trips, and lead summer camps.
Performances were a big part of Michelle’s life as she LOVED to sing. Being trained to sing in the choir by Earl McElrath (Uncle Earl) and the late Udell Hicks, she sang with These Are They Youth Choir, The United Voices of Faith, and Humbly Submitted Choir. She also directed the John W. Thompson’s Bishop’s Chorale Choir. Michelle was a vocal coach in and outside of the church, working with many groups and soloists. She continued to sing through her sickness and would not be denied a chance to be up in the choir stand even if she had to sit in a chair, as she often did. Her voice was angelic as she led song after song with power and conviction.
Michelle also was an actress performing in several stage productions. Her play, Call Me Daddy, was performed at Dobama Theater in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. In addition, the play ventured to New York City and placed 377 among 900 entries.
In 1998, Michelle met the love of her life, Alvin Jamaul Dancy. They dated for three years and were married May 5, 2001. To that union, two beautiful children were conceived; her Chocolate Drop, Asia, and her Great Prince, Alexander. Being a wife and mother meant the absolute world to Michelle. She enjoyed their late night drives, themed movie nights, and deep conversations. Forever the cheerleader, Michelle was extremely supportive of her husband and children in all of their endeavors, especially during her kids’ school years–which included a multitude of sports, activities, and performances.
Michelle left this life on Friday, February 6th, 2026 @ 5:45 p.m.. Michelle was preceded in death by her Father Michael Berry. She leaves to mourn her beloved husband Alvin Dancy, two children Asia Noelle and Alexander Jamar, Mother Barbara Bibbs, Sister Josette Compton, Brother Elijah Bibbs, Goddaughter Shellice Danielle, Mother-in-Law Andrea Dancy, Father-in-Law Alvin Dancy Sr., Brother-In-Law Eric Dancy (Channez), Sister-in-Law Trinette Organ (Littleton), nieces and nephews; Kyla, Lamar, Savannah, and Lucas, her Uncle Johnny, Cousin Liz, Godfather Willie J. McCreary, Godbrother Pastor Donte Thompson, Spiritual Mother JoeAnn Anderson, and a host of other family and friends.
