Rev. Charles William Henley Sr., age 93, peacefully passed away on August 27, 2026. Born May 29, 1933, to Reuben “Mack” and Josephine “Josie” (Bryant) Henley, Rev. Henley was the third eldest of 10 children.

In July 1952, at the young age of 19, Rev. Henley met his wife, Rose Bud Simmons, at Bethel Christian Church in Eastman, Georgia. Shortly after, he moved to Cleveland, Ohio, to work at J&L Steel. Rose soon followed, and the two were married on December 22, 1952.

A devoted husband of 73 years, Rev. Henley and Rose built a life centered on love, faith, and family, raising their three children: Barbara Ann, Charles, and Irene.

Rev. Henley understood the value of hard work and always provided for his family. He built a respectable 45-year career with the steel mill, where he worked until retiring in 1999.

A true handyman, Rev. Henley loved fixing things around the house. He also loved fishing, playing the piano while singing and recording his favorite hymns, landscaping his yard, and gardening.

Rev. Henley was a faithful servant of the Lord. He first served as a member of the usher board and later as a deacon. His strong faith eventually led him to become a reverend; a role he served fervently until his health no longer allowed him to minister in person.

Rev. Henley was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Irene Taylor, Sally Mae Hudson (Will), and Ophelia Barnes (Roy); and brothers, Andrew and Robert.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife; three children; eight grandchildren, Chrishona, Monique, Nicole (Robert), Jonathan, Taj (Britnee), Trey, Brian, and Devon; nine great-grandchildren, Franklin, Robert Jr., Andrew, Sydney, Peyton, Jonathan Jr., Kamryn, Kendall, and Taj Jr.; four siblings, Eddie (Juanita), Virginia (Willie, deceased), Emily (Charles), and Reuben Jr. (Claudia, deceased); two sisters-in-law, Jewel and Virginia, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
