Melvin Hudson was born July 10, 1947, to his parents Ora B. Hudson and Ossie Craig in Cleveland, Ohio. The youngest of five children he was raised with sister Clementine and brothers Thomas (Sulayman), Raymond and twin Marvin. He attended Gladstone Elementary School, Kennard Junior High where he ran track and graduated from East Technical High in 1967.
Melvin’s eldest son Michael Whitted was born in 1968. Melvin married Barbara Jean Thomas and gained a daughter, Vikki at that time. Their family became complete with the birth of their son Mark. Melvin worked for Tenna Corporation and East Ohio Gas Company. While employed at the Gas Company he read meters and did collections. After retiring he worked as a Housing Inspector for a brief period. Mel’s favorite pastimes were weightlifting, exercising, bicycling, bowling (Severance Lanes), Ballroom and line dancing at (Jacks Thistle Down Racino and Murtis Taylor), watching sports and traveling.
He loved attending family events and discussing politics, sports, and current events. His infectious smile and his pleasant humor will be missed. He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons Michael Whitted (Janice), Mark Hudson (Wendy), and daughter VikkiBobby Bell (Robert Sr.), five grandsons; Nathaniel Whitted, Emmanuel Malik, Kirk Bell, Robert Bell Jr., Thomas Bell and granddaughter Marya Bell, three brothers; Sulayman Malik, Raymond Hudson (Denise), and Marvin Hudson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Melvin was proceeded in death by his grandparents, John O and Willie Mae Brown, Mother Ora B. Hudson, Father Ossie Craig, sister Clementine J. Floyd, aunts Esther B. Jordan, Ernestine Brown, Juanita Lloyd, Lillian Brown, uncle John O. Brown, nieces Linda Sims-Cotton, Charlotte Lee and seven beloved Jordan cousins.
