Ms.Seloris Smothers, 98, was called to eternal rest in the Arms of God, on Wednesday, October 11, 2017.
Born in Pensacola, FL on February 17, 1919, to Gallie and Leevail Dixon. A graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola, she moved to Akron at the young age of 20. She was a member of Wesley Temple AME Zion Church, for over forty years.
She was employed at BF Goodrich and as a “day worker” She was a very proud homeowner, for over sixty years, at 778 Ruth Ave. There are many adjectives to describe, Ms. Seloris, but the ones that describe her best is Independent, (when African-American women were not permitted to be independent), proud, feisty, and frugal.
She is survived by family members, out of state, brother, James Dixon, sister, Katherine Butts, sister in law, Mary Dixon, nieces, Monica Dixon and Marcia Pugh and other nieces and
nephews. Even Though, she did not have any family in Akron, she loved and was loved by many neighbors and friends. She was selflessly cared for throughout the years up to her passing and final wishes by Sharon Butler-(James) McCray and Chrissy (Jaland) Finney.
