Nancy was born in Columbus, Ohio on November 9, 1946. She was raised in Barberton, Ohio, attended U.L. Light Junior High School, and later graduated from Barberton High School. During those school years, Nancy participated in sports such as, volleyball, and cheerleading. Upon graduation, her career began as a cashier at the Kroger Supermarket, and led to other jobs including but not limited to, Fairlawn Chateau, where she gained many friends, and then the United States Postal Service where she retired as a clerk.
On October 2, 1971, Nancy married her soulmate with whom she would bear three beautiful daughters. Being an only child, she desired a large family. Altogether, with her two older sons, Nancy acquired the family she’d always longed for. Over the years, her family continued to grow as she opened up her heart and home to many.
Nancy was a lifelong member of the New Hope Baptist Church, beginning under the leadership of Reverend Dr. T DeWitt Smith, Jr. As a faithful member, she enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. Being a prayer warrior over her children and grandchildren, incessant prayer was a mainstay in her life. Daily, she could often be found reading her Bible, it was her peace and clothe.
Nancy was an avid soap opera fan; she truly enjoyed watching her “stories!” She also enjoyed watching movies, reading magazines, retail therapy (shopping), spending time with her family and friends, and traveling.
Nancy was preceded in death by her daughter, Charleasea Ty-Sing Turner; mother, Jewel Godson-Standford; father, Harold Standford; brother-in-law, Larry Sullivan; and lifelong soulmate, S.B. Sullivan, Jr. “Together Again”
She is survived by sons, J.D. Holmes, Israel E. Nelson; daughters, La’Fawn N. Jones (Lester, II), La’Tracia C. Sullivan, and La’Rissa J. Jackson; 18 grandchildren, Antoine, Dante’, Cameron, Ja’Montae, De’Vonte’, Kyle, Elisha-Juan, Sean’Nese, Taylor, Sean, Sean’Nae, Jewel, Justin, Noah, Nikolas, Jenesis, Brooklyn, and Joi; beloved siblings-in-law, Mary Sullivan, Marilyn (David) Ruffin, and Sherman Sullivan; beloved cousin, Kelly VanHoupe; at least seven great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
