Norma Jewel Beavers was born on March 31, 1953 in Arkansas to the late James C. and Abyssina McQueen. God called her to her eternal rest in glory on May 9, 2023.
She was preceded in death, and is now rejoicing with her beloved son Fredrick John Lee. From her marriage to Michael J. Beavers, she leaves to mourn her beloved precious daughters Tiffany Corine Beavers, and Aaisha Peterson. Her beloved precious grandchildren Fredricka, Jamel, Jaylyn, Ja’Juan, Christian, and DeMarri. Her beloved great-grandchildren Kaylah (“fat-fat”), Kingston (“king”), Kash, and Cozted (“CJ”).
Early in life, Jewel accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. She enjoyed listening to hymns/gospel songs with some of her favorite artists being, Vickie Yohe, Marvin Sapp, Yolanda Adams, and Donnie McClurkin, just to name a few. She also loved listening to hip-hop and R&B with her grand and great-grandchildren, learning the latest dances and making them laugh. She was always encouraging, and her positive energy was contagious. Can’t you hear her unique laugh now, rejoicing in heaven knowing she fulfilled her purpose.
She was educated during her formative years in the several states her father served in the Army and loved to tell stories about the years she lived in Germany. She proudly graduated in 1971 from John Hay High School. After graduating high school, she worked a few years in her father’s business, and was praised for her punctuality, excellent work ethic, and commitment to the family business, and she kept that same reputation when she worked for Loctite Corporation for 25 years, and then her final places of employment in the field of hospitality and providing health care to congregational/group home residents.
Her anchor passage of Scripture that she shared the most with people was Proverbs 3:1-8. Also, Matthew 28:19-20 says “make disciples…, teaching them to observe all that I taught you.” Her beautiful spirit was strengthened abundantly by her tenacity in herself and by her faith in Jesus, especially during the 18 years she battled with Sarcoidosis. She trusted in God, believed in herself, and proclaimed that from the time of diagnosis, and in every difficult breath she took, that she was going to live a full life with joy, fun, and dignity. And she did just that.
Jewel was creatively gifted in many ways – sewing, drawing, authentically loving everyone, unconditionally, always, with exceptional passionate love for her children, grandbabies, and great-grandbabies. She loved line dancing and teaching it to others. Her beautiful fun spirit touched a lot of people in the Cleveland line dancing community, at her beloved Zelma Watson George Community Center, her Murtis Taylor friends, other community centers she participated with, life-long friends at Loctite, and friends in the community she resided.
Jewel was preceded in death by her beloved son Fredrick John Lee, and brother James McQueen Jr. She leaves we who deeply mourn: siblings – Willie, Gwendolyn, Milt, Abigail, Emmanuel, Walter, and Everett. Many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Her cherished beloved friend of 40+ years Sonja Mays – truly a beautiful unconditional friendship. Step-siblings – Gail, Karen, and Gary. Aunts, uncles, and cousins. As well her bonus extended family- The Johnson’s. And the multitudes of people whom her life has impacted.
