Inez was born to the late John McClendon and Martha Ann Young in Newnan, Ga., on March 27th, 1932. Inez accepted and loved the Lord Jesus from an early age. She ensured that her children were raised in the faith through St Paul Baptist Church. She was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Inez graduated from Central High School in Cleveland, Ohio. She had a passion for cooking/baking that shone through in every dish. Her skills led her to work as a cook at Case Western Reserve.
During this time, Inez would meet her first love. Charles Veasley Sr. and they married, and to this union, seven children were born. Inez was a devoted wife and mother who was considered the “MOTHER” of Brightwood. You could always count on Momma for cooking and baking for her family, friends, and especially for the kids in the neighborhood. This caring mother kept her children nearby and filled her house with neighborhood kids. Inez and Charles honored their vows and endured their marriage until his death.
Inez was blessed to have met and later married David Gregory. After 40 years of hard work and dedication to Fazio’s, Inez retired from the Teamsters and Bakers Union. She was able to create many memories with her husband by taking road trips around the world, camping with her grandchildren, and spending a tremendous amount of time with her children. Inez not only had a passion for cooking, but she also loved to Garden. Her flower bed was as bright and vibrant as she was.
Inez was very passionate when it came to family! She would make sure all the holidays were celebrated together! There would be an abundance of Food, Love, and Joy! She didn’t miss a beat when it came to baking her famous cakes. It didn’t matter what the occasion was, there was always a special cake baked with LOVE! As soon as you come in the door, she would say, “You want some cake? “We all laugh to this day about that saying, and we will forever hold that in our memories.
Inez is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Veasley Sr., and David Gregory. Parents: John T. McClendon and Martha Ann Young. Children: Larry Veasley, Ronald Veasley, and Patricia Ann Wills.
She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memories; two sons, Terry Veasley and Charles Veasley Jr. (April), one daughter, Renee Thornton (Rudy), daughter-in-law Leanna Lynne Harris (Hardo), son-in-law Darion Wills, Bonus Brother Eugene Ross, 16 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 32 great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild.
