Patricia (Pat) JoAnn Brown, (Hollis) was born August 22, 1936 in Akron, Ohio to Patt J. Hollis Sr. and Thessie (Watkins) Hollis. Patricia graduated from Central High in 1954.
Patricia worked at the Navy Finance Center in Cleveland when she married James Roy Brown on October 11, 1958. Together Pat and Jim raised three children; James (Jimmy) Jr., Larry, and Twila. After her marriage, Pat worked as a service representative for the Social Security office for over thirty-six years. Post retirement from Social Security, Patricia worked part-time at First Merit Bank.
Patricia enjoyed singing, bowling, dancing, sewing, fashion, traveling, and for several years had a business making fruit baskets. She was a member of the Akron Suburbanites and the Sassy Red Hatters.
Patricia’s Prince Hall affiliations are: Past Worthy Matron Phoenix Chapter 96 OES, Past Grand Deputy Amaranth Grand Chapter OES, member of Heroines of Jericho, Court #5, Golgotha Guild #4, Heroines of Templar Crusades, Bezaleel Assembly #19, Order of the Golden Circle, Past Illustrious Commandress Al Kaf Court #144, and Past Imperial Deputy of the Oasis of Akron.
Patricia was long-time member of Wesley Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, class leader, director and member of the Christian Education Board for the children, member of the Missionary Department, the Silver Leaf Club, and sang in the Cathedral Choir.
Patricia was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty years, James Roy Brown, who passed just one month prior. Also preceding her were here parents, her sister Theelia and brother P.J. Remaining to mourn Patricia’s absence are her children Jimmy (Alicia), Larry (Donna), and Twila along with brothers Winifred (Janet), Darryl (Phyllis), and Fred (Michele). Patricia also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
