Pauline Buckner was born to the late Edith Mae and William Taft Buckner on January 11, 1936. She was one of eight children born to this union.
Pauline grew up in Winchester, Tennessee where she was raised in church and was baptized at an early age. She attended and graduated from Townsend High School and attended Tennessee State University for a short period before relocating to Cleveland, Ohio in 1956.
After arriving in Cleveland, Ohio, Pauline worked at the Women’s General Hospital. Upon leaving Women’s General, she worked at Erie Lackawanna Railroad. Pauline met the love of her life, Leon Walker. They were united in Holy Matrimony in 1957. To this union two sons, were born.
Pauline and Leon were successful entrepreneurs. They opened Paulette’s Record Shop in East Cleveland, purchased apartment buildings in Cleveland Heights and in Shaker Heights. After which, Pauline began her business, LaBelle Femme with stores in Shaker Heights and Randall Park Mall. The things she loved most were, traveling, shopping and cooking.
Sister Walker loved the Lord and was a faithful member of the Historic Greater Friendship Baptist Church, under the tutelage of Pastor Larry W. Howard, where she served faithfully on Usher Ministry #2 and the Trustee Ministry for many years. Recently, Pastor Wade appointed her on the Mothers Ministry where she served with great excitement until her health declined.
Pauline fought a good fight, however God needed her more. She answered His call on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon and three brothers, Henry, Norman Lee, and Charles Buckner; two sons, Marvin LaVelle and Leon Dwight.
She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Steven; three sisters: Helen (Clauzell) Pou, Faye Wilson, Kaye (Ernest) Bynum; one brother, Harry Wayne; two great grandchildren: Rayven and Deion; two godchildren, Sean and Beag Davis; eleven nieces, six nephews and cousins (too numerous to name).
Devoted friends: Ruby Davis, Joyce Petty, Doris Seymour and Laura Collier: extended family and friends always cherished in her heart.
Humbly submitted,
The Family
