On May 3, 1941, in Kingston, Jamaica, a precious baby boy, Peter Howard Long, was born in union to Howard Archibald Long and Hazel Long, better known as Papa, Grandpa, Dad and Hero. Peter transitioned, peacefully at his residence, to his heavenly home on Friday, August 16, 2024, at the age of 83.
Peter was an outstanding father, brother, grandfather and friend to many who knew and loved him dearly. During his early years, at the age of five, he came to America, residing in Boston, Massachusetts, embarking on a life full of precious memories. Peter graduated from Boston Trade High School earning a diploma in Radio and TV Electronic Repair. While living in Boston he worked as a club promoter. Peter later moved to Akron, Ohio and was employed with Sears & Roebuck for over 30 years as a repair technician. He loved and enjoyed fishing, cooking, bowling, baseball, golf, bird watching, tending to his garden full of peppers, car shows, traveling and attending conventions.
Peter’s most precious highlight in life was awaiting and watching the birth of his only precious baby girl, Patrice Marie Long, in 1989. Later in life, he spent his final years with his extended family and life partner, Mary O’Herron. He had a generous heart, willing to lend a helping hand and cared for his loved ones at any chance he got.
Preceding Peter in death were his parents, Hazel Long and Howard Archibald Long; and sister, Sandra Judy Long.
Left to cherish his memories is his daughter, Patrice Marie Long of Akron, Ohio; brothers, Andrew (Annette) Long of Akron; Michael (Jean) Long of Boston, Massachusetts; aunt, Yovonne March of California; extended family Priscilla Lopez, Wayne Long, Fabian Ballentine all of Pennsylvania, Henrietta “Janet” Bell of Florida, and Theron Long of Jamaica; granddaughter, Harlowe Marie Miller; grandsons, Kingston Alan Michael James, Anthony “Carter” Anderson and Xavier Josiah Mason Long; and a host of other family and friends.
