With great sadness, I announce the death of my beloved husband, Phillip Jerome Johnson, who was born August 13, 1945, in Akron, Ohio.
He was the youngest child of parents, Clark & Katherine Johnson. He passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022, with his wife, “Bo”, at his side.
Phil was quite a man who enjoyed writing, composing and playing his music with his band. He was a true saxophonist and he enjoyed music as an outlet. It was his joy. He loved music and some of his favorite musicians were Coltrane and Lester Young. He was a quiet man, but his silence was loud.
He retired from the City of Akron.
He was preceded in death by father, Clark J. Johnson; mother, Katherine “Kay” Wooldridge Johnson; brother, Bruce “Pepi” Johnson; mother-in-law, Blanche M. Veal; brother-in-law, Sidney Harvey; sister-in-law, Lela “Veal” Cannon.
Phil is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah “Bo” Johnson, daughters, Judy Pickett, Janell Ferguson (also his caregiver), Melissa Johnson and Garnetta Johnson; son, Ramono Cunningham; grandchildren, Darnesha Pickett, JJ and Jasmine Ferguson; great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousin, Lenora Wooldridge and family; special great grandchild, Dalen Pickett; sister-in-laws, Sharon Toney and Tracy Clark; brother-in-law, Vince Veal, and many other friends.
