“I AM A CHILD OF GOD”
Rayshon Wesley Reed was born the third child to the union of Adrienne Lynn Crawford and Charles Lindsey Reed Jr., both of Cleveland, Ohio on April 29, 1988 at Saint Luke’s Hospital.
Rayshon accepted the LORD at an early age attending the Salvation Army Miles Corps along with his parents and siblings. Rayshon and his siblings, Nina Marie, Charles Lindsey III and Brian loved helping out with the food banks, and attending Youth Activities; which were plentiful year-round. He was currently a member of the St. Luke Overcoming Apostolic Church.
To the union of Lynette Powell (of the Common Wealth of Virginia) and Rayshon was born a beautiful baby girl, named Genesis Charley Reed on September 11, 2012. At the time of his passing Rayshon’s Partner of 10 years was Tiffany Thomas of Cleveland, Ohio.
Ray attended CMSD’s Max S. Hayes Technology & Vocational High School, Grades 9-11, focusing on Automotive & Small Engine Repair. He received his High School Diploma from the Cleveland Christian Academy; Ray completed a Lead Abatement & Window Replacement Training Certificate program, assisted in the writing of a Youth Workforce Development Program in Warren, Ohio- “Trash to Treasure” that won a National Award. Ray completed a Dominion Gas Company of NE Ohio’s – Infrastructure Reconstruction: Gas Line Removal and New Installation Training – Certificate. He earned an Advanced Technology Institute Degree and an ESCO Institute Certification; Ray held an Ohio Commercial CDL Class a Driver’s License; and a host of Masonry and Steele Workers’ Certificates.
For 33 of the 37 years of Ray’s life, he was always eager to work or volunteer. He was a true “Paper Boy” for the Cleveland Plain Dealer News Paper’s Home Door to Door Carriers. He worked for Sherwood Foods; Tidal Construction in Portsmouth, Va; Simos Truck Loader at (Wal-Mart & Target) in Virginia Beach, Va. For the Black & White Taxi Cab of Norfolk, Va., as a engine repairman, Gene’s Transmission Shop Portsmouth, Va.; Hardy’s Plumbing Cleveland, Ohio; Coverall’s Top Notch Cleaning Company, Cleveland, Ohio just to mention a few.
I know many are wondering why so much education and so many diverse jobs? Rayshon Wesley Reed is part of a paternal bloodline that has witnessed 7 generations (1857-Present) where everyone has completed formal high school education and entered college or a comparable vocational education training program.
Rayshon loved cooking, writing and composing music, bowling, singing, dancing, fishing & crabbing, tutoring, reading and mentoring children. During the late 1990’s; as a founding member the very popular teen hip hop rap group Adrenaline Rush- Ray performed and presented at the National Convention for the Education of the Black Child, in Kenosha, Wisconsin; they participated alongside of Cleveland’s own “Silver Bee” at the Million Man March in Our Nation’s Capital. They are listed in a current University Textile Textbook (Twentieth Century American Fashion) as trend setters in Hip Hop fashion design. The group was very popular at political rallies, and community festivals & celebrations such as Night-Out against Crime with McGruff the Crime Dog. Adrenaline Rush toured and performed on shows with greats such as Alicia Keys, doing book signings with Attorney Johnnie Cochran, and The Cleveland Libraries Workshops for Children. The Cleveland Browns gave them permission to record “Who Let the Books Out” to the music of Who Let the Dogs Out! Adrenaline Rush was the first youth group to have Soda Pop and Chips, featuring them in our neighborhood stores.
