Regina Henderson was born on October 31, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio, the beloved only child of Forzie Pearson—whom she deeply adored—and Matthew John Scott. Though an only child, Regina was never alone. She was raised surrounded by a large and loving extended family that included 18 first cousins, many aunties and uncles, and devoted grandparents. Her family was incredibly close-knit, and Regina cherished every moment spent talking, laughing, dancing, and playing cards with them. Family was everything to her.
In 1962 at 18 years old, Regina married the love of her life, Colonius Henderson. Together, they built a home filled with love and joy, raising four children: 1 son Colonius Henderson Acey and 3 daughters Kimonius Henderson, Nicole Henderson-Paul, and Shailaja Henderson-Talley (Leland). Their marriage remained strong and loving until Colonius’s passing after battling cancer. Over the years, she fostered many children and later adopted Matthew Carnes after her husbands passing whom she loved as her own.
A devoted Jehovah’s Witness, Regina had a deep love for the truth and for her brothers and sisters at the Kingdom Hall. Her faith was central to her life.
After retiring from General Motors, she began to run a babysitting business from her home so that fellow Witnesses could go out in field service, knowing their children were safe and well cared for.
Regina had a wonderful sense of humor that lit up every room she entered. She could talk for hours—her stories, laughter, and conversations will be missed dearly by everyone who knew her. She was incredibly generous, always willing to lend a hand or open her heart to those in need.
She leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Deja Paul, Chelsea Paul, Nicholas Paul, Autumn Blackmon(Cleophus Backmon III) Scottlyn Henderson, Jhoi Carnes and; and three beloved great-grandsons: Karter, Kodi, and Raife.
She also had a lifelong love for dogs—there was always a furry friend in her home bringing joy and companionship.
Regina was a gifted seamstress, known for her incredible craftsmanship. She lovingly designed and made two of her daughters’ wedding dresses, the bridal party attire, and even a wedding gown and prom dress for her granddaughters—each one a true labor of love.
In addition to her creative talents, Regina was also an entrepreneur. She and her daughter Kim co-owned and operated our family business, Oh Baby Cakes Bakery for 10 years, serving delicious baked goods and creating sweet memories together as a mother-daughter team.
Regina passed away on July 16, 2025, in the city where she was born, raised, and loved—Cleveland, Ohio.
She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, generous spirit, humor, strength, and the deep love she gave to her family, friends, and community. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
