Richard Lawrence Wynn was born February 1, 1931, in Maple Heights, Ohio, to the late Marcus T and Emma Betty Wynn. He was the seventh of ten children. Richard was proceeded in death by seven of his siblings; Marcus (Edith), Dorothy, George (Virginia), Emma (Solomon Evans), Author, Viola and Clifford. He leaves behind two brothers: Coleman (Irene) and Julius (June). Richard received his education in Maple Heights City Schools and Cleveland Public School District, and enjoyed playing baseball and running track.
Richard met his now late wife, Rose Lee Wynn, who relocated from Alabama to Ohio and the two were married on October 24,1967. From that union was born Richard Wynn Jr. (Yolanda), Freddie Wynn (Gina) and Joyce Hill deceased, Rudy Sr). He also had an older daughter; Jerry Wynn (adopted). Richard loved and cared for all his children. He loved Christ and often accompanied his wife to Greater MT. Zion Baptist Church.
In July 1968, Richard began his career at the City of Cleveland, Division of Water, as a Water Services Worker. He received several certificates and was promoted multiple times including to Water Pipe Replacement Foreman and Jack Hammer Operator. He took pride in his job. He would often work the graveyard shift and go in for overtime. Richard retired in March 1996.
Richard taught himself how to read and he would read the newspaper everyday. He was honored at Thurgood Marshall or his abilities in baseball. He spent several years traveling, including going to Florida to visit his close friend James “Duke” Easton. Richard enjoyed attending Indians games and would often watch baseball games with the tv on mute, while listening to the same game on his radio. He loved watching his westerns and re-runs on TV, eating liver and rice, snacking on candy and drinking Wild Irish Rose. He also loved being with his family and would affectionately call his grandchildren and his dog “Big Head”. On a good day, you could hear him let out a loud yawn, “YAHWOO OO WOO”! He spent time going to the casino with friends and pursuing his entrepreneurial ventures, which many of his friends in the neighborhood supported.
On February 24th, 2023, Richard Wynn was called home while surrounded by family and friends. Richard leaves behind his children, his grandchildren: Rudy Hill Jr., Latasha Hill, Charde` Wynn, Charron Wynn, Latoya Wynn, Frederick Chatmon, Freddie Crumbly and Ricardo Chatmon, nine great- grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
