On Tuesday, October 11, 2022, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt went home to be with the Lord after a brief illness.
Rosalyn Denise (Snowden) Jackson, affectionately known to her family and friends as “Rocky,” was born June 3, 1953 in Akron, Ohio to Arthur L. and Johnnie B. (Sanders) Snowden.
After graduating from John R. Buchtel High School in 1972, Rocky married fellow Buchtel grad, Michael A. Jackson, on January 5, 1974. Soon thereafter, they had a son, Michael II (Little Mike), and several years later a daughter, Carmen – born on her 30th birthday.
Rocky completed her bachelor’s degree in Communications at the University of Akron before beginning careers in Cleveland radio and teaching at Akron Public Schools. Finally, she worked as a Flight Attendant for Delta Airlines before retiring in Akron, Ohio.
While her children were young, Rocky enjoyed being involved in her children’s activities as well as some of her own, which included a bowling league, Women in Communications, Inc. (WICI) and volunteering for the Children’s Concert Society of Akron. In her spare time, Rocky was most happy to be baking her celebrated Christmas cookies, decorating, traveling with her husband and family, attending family gatherings — especially game nights — and family outings. Rocky was most “at home” when just hanging with her mother and her sisters. Perhaps her most favorite recent pastime was any moment she could spend (in person or virtually) with her grandson, Avery.
As a lifelong member of Arlington Church of God, Rocky’s spiritual life was of the highest importance to her. In fact, of all of her life accomplishments and milestones, Rocky would say the most significant and meaningful thing she ever did, above raising her children, was giving her life to the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur, and brother, John Leslie Snowden.
Rocky will be deeply missed by her husband, Michael of Akron, OH; children, Michael of Canton, OH, and Carmen (Cleavon) Cox of New York, N.Y.; grandson, Avery Cox; mother, Johnnie Snowden; sisters, Johnnette (Howard) Curry, Leigh Ann Knott, Stephanie Sims, all of Akron, OH, and Felicia (Michael) Campbell of Copley, OH; brother, Arthur Snowden of Akron, OH. She also leaves to mourn, dear friends, Barbara Stone of Crete, Ill., Lizzie Greene of Akron, OH, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, OH 44307. Interment at Mt. Peace Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday, October 21, 2022, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and on the day of the service, from 11:00 AM until time of service. Condolences may be sent to 4551 Litchfield Dr., Copley, OH 44321.
