Ruby Ester Houston of Wickliffe, Ohio died peacefully in her sleep on January 18, 2022, she was 82 years old.
She was born in Danville, Virginia on August 12, 1939, to Percy George Washington Thompson and Lois Dawson. She is one of fifteen children born to her parents. Ruby is survived by her sons Angelo Houston and Mario (Candis) Houston; grandchildren Heather Houston, Angela (Brett) DeBondt, Myles Houston, Camryn Houston, Angelo Houston Jr.; great grandchild Wyatt Houston; siblings Willie Edward Thompson, Virginia Harrison, Katherine Orr, Pearl Coleman, Kenneth Thompson, Percy Thompson Jr. and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her former spouse Henry Houston.
Ruby grew up on her father’s farm, sharecropping tobacco until she moved to Cleveland in the 1950’s. She accepted Jesus at an early age and sang in the church choir both as a youth and an adult. She worked for more than 40 years as a licensed beautician, and is thought of fondly by many that sat in her chair. She loved working in her yard and took pride in it being one of the best in the city as she won “House of the Year” in her ward.
