Ruby L. Crider was born September 9, 1927, in Empire, AL to the late Rubin and Dazzarine Burrows. At age 93, she departed this life at 9:50 pm on December 26, 2020.
She graduated from Rosedale High School in Birmingham, AL. She attended cosmetology school and nursing school. She married Charles Swann in 1948, and they had five children together.
She divorced Charles in 1982 and later met and married William O. Crider in 1988.
She was a long-time member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Massillon, OH, and served as a Sunday School Teacher, a missionary, and several other positions in the church. She was very active with the NAACP organization in Massillon, OH. Her interest included making floral arrangements, gardening, and writing poetry. She was presented the Editor’s Choice award from The National Library of Poetry in 1996 for her published poetry.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Connie Burrows, and Pedro Burrows of Massillon, OH; sons, Charles Swann J.R. of Massillon, OH, and Michael Swann of Pell City, AL; husband, William O. Crider of Massillon, OH.
She leaves to mourn her passing her sister, Barbara Burrows of San Diego, California; daughters, Veronica Taylor of Ashville, AL, Charlene Nash of Akron, OH and, Ameerah Sultan of Ashville, AL; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
