On April 22, 1948, the union of Samuel and Minnie Lou Corney was blessed with their only son, “Sam”, out of nine children born to them.
He grew up in the inner city of Cleveland and was educated in the public school system. After receiving his GED, he attended Cuyahoga Community College. He then served in the US Army and was honorably discharged.
His mother, being a devout woman of deep faith, was intent on her children growing up in the knowledge of God and Jesus Christ as Savior, therefore, Sam and his siblings were brought up under the Christian faith in the Church of God in Christ.
In his early years, he met and married Joanne Sharp, and to this union they were blessed with two children.
Sam was never one to be idle or unproductive and throughout his life he became proficient in culinary arts, welding, and as a healthcare professional.
In 1988 he married the love of his life, Leslie Boyle. They built a beautiful life together which included traveling the world and establishing and renovating a beautiful farm in Wakeman, Ohio.
Sam will be remembered as an avid fisherman, a poker enthusiast, an exceptional gardener, and a grill master extraordinaire. To know him was to be impacted by his quiet manner but powerful presence.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 35 years, Leslie; one son, Samuel III of Texas; one daughter, Selena Lee Corney; three sisters: Yvonne Love of Hamilton, Georgia, Emma Jean Dyer and Linda Corney of Cleveland, Ohio; six grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
