Shirley Ann Tynes-Lee, age 88, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 2, 2021. Shirley Ann Lee is the daughter of the late, George R. Tynes Sr. and Lillian Gwendolyn Purcell. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Linette York(Marshall York Jr.); siblings, Milton Hollar and George R. Tynes Jr.(Gloria Tynes). Shirley is survived by her children, Linda Denise Lee-Green and Jacquelyn Annette Lee-Ivey; sister, Carole Tynes-Lee; grandchildren, Leigha York(Will Hutcheson), Aaryn Green, Marquia Ivey and Hadiya Ivey; great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Scheely; and a host of family and friends.

I am so sorry to learn of Shirley's passing. She was a good friend, and colleague. She was a pioneer in partnering with community groups to support literacy, through her SOAR (Share Our Ability to Read) program. Many children proffited from this program as did southeast area library staff who participated. Shirley rest in peace.
