Starlin Theodore Hargrove was born on November 3, 1958, in Goldsboro, NC. He was the son of the late Mildred C. Hargrove and Willie E. Simmons and to this union, three other siblings were born.
Starlin lived with his aunt (Minnie Hargrove Flowers) from the age of 2 until he left Goldsboro at the early age of 12, to chart his own path. He visited and stayed with an uncle (Grover Cleveland Hargrove) in Brooklyn, NY for a short time before moving to stay with a cousin (Richard Flowers) in Springfield Massachusetts.
However, Starlin found solace when he arrived to stay with an uncle (Aster “D” Hargrove) in Akron, in the early 70s. Starlin was inspired by the sense of family, so he decided to make Akron, Ohio his home. Starlin moved in with a special cousin (Christine) until eventually moving into his own apartment. Starlin was a drum major to the beat of his own tune. When his mind was made up, the course was clear in the decision and directions he wanted to go. Though not always successful, he stayed true to that principle to the end.
Although Starlin’s life may have seemed short-lived, he has left a long history of fun thoughts and memories in the mind of so many. His charming and even-toned voice and personality brought much to love, laugh, and joke about. He often mentioned how he was going to be rich and move back to North Carolina. To have known Starlin, was to experience any of his enduring conversations in person or over the phone. Which may have lasted one minute to one or two hours depending on how much time you had.
In addition to his parents, Starlin was preceded in death by his younger brother, Cedric Hargrove.
He leaves to mourn his passing his brother, Waverly (Zula) Hargrove (Killeen, TX.); sister, Asantewaa Mawusi (Albuquerque NM.); niece, Okorie (James) Hargrove Flowers (Oahu Hawaii); nephews, Kwame Hargrove, (California), Amiri Hargrove (Killeen TX); niece, Nekisha and Ashanti Haring (Berlin Germany); nephews, Cedric Jr., Christopher, Stalin and David Hargrove (Fort Worth, TX) Donald Hargrove (Baltimore MD), Tyrone Love (NC); special cousin, Christine Hargrove, Clyde Hargrove, Carla Hargrove, Corey Hargrove, Aster Hargrove, and Fred Hargrove (Akron Ohio); mother’s last surviving sister, Geraldine Hargrove Breaux of Houston Texas and a host of other relatives and friends from Texas and North Carolina.
