Thelma Hill-Johnson was born July 4, 1941 in Quitman, Georgia to Mary Hewitt and Frank Hill.
She attended Brooks County Schools.
Thelma accepted Christ at an early age. After moving to Cleveland, Ohio in 1962, she became a member of East Mount Zion Baptist Church. Later in life she joined Christian Church of Deliverance under the leadership of Bishop John Harge.
Thelma was a loving wife and mother who dedicated her life to raising her children and creating a warm welcoming home. She was the matriarch of the family, known for her unmatched hospitality and tireless devotion. As a full-time homemaker, she managed the household with a stern hand, and was the glue that held everything together. Thelma never met a stranger and made EVERYONE feel like family. She lived a full and productive life filled with love, laughter and kindness. She cared deeply for her family and friends.
Thelma loved gardening, fishing, reading, cooking, working puzzles and conversations with whomever she met. She loved sitting around the kitchen table entertaining with her children, family and friends. She loved to listen to gospel music as well as the blues. But most of all she loved cookies, eating ice cream and chewing gum.
We will always remember family nights when we would get together to play games and feast around the table. We will remember how her door was always open to everyone who needed her with no expectations in return. She would give her last dollar if you needed it and the shirt off her back.
On Saturday September 27, 2025 Thelma left this earthly life.
Preceding her in death are; her husband Marshall I Johnson, her mother Mary Hewitt, her father Frank Hill, two brothers John Henry Hill, Robert Hewitt, one sister Bertha Hewitt-Duncan and a special Aunt Laura Mae.
She leaves to cherish her memory; two sisters Velma Bell of Quitman Georgia and Susie Wilson of Cleveland, Ohio. Four children Thelma Bruce (Ronald), Jacqueline Hill, Anthony Hill and Kevin Hill. Nine grandchildren, five great granchildren, and two great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
