Theodore “Jabo” Scott was born to the late Fred D. and Ellen B. (Garner) Scott on March 7, 1948, in Barberton, Ohio. He was the fourth child of 8 children.
He graduated from Barberton High School in 1966 where he had fond memories as a varsity basketball player. He attended The University of Akron for two years with interests in counseling and Black studies.
Mr. Scott retired from Babcox & Wilcox as an inspector after 35 years of service. Following retirement, he found himself serving the elderly with B&G mobile meals. He said that his time at B&G “felt more like family helping one another than a job.” After the closing of B&G, he continued his passion for delivering meals to the elderly with Vantage Mobile Services where he was employed for the past 10 years. Recently, Ted was honored at a luncheon with the Employee of Distinction Award. He exhibited great joy and satisfaction serving the elderly as many anxiously awaited his arrival. Ted loved to love on people. He never met a stranger and had a gift for talking to everyone.
He loved his yoga classes, his instructors, and fellow yogis. A yoga enthusiast, Ted practiced yoga for over 15 years. He enjoyed gardening in the community garden where he was lovingly known as the mayor of the block. He also loved sports, reading, jazz music, and barbequing for his family.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Fred D. and Ellen B. Scott, niece Jacqui Calhoun and great-nieces Angel Askew and Yvette Wentz.
Ted leaves to cherish fond and loving memories; his wife of 42 years, Cynthia; son Dwayne James, daughters Carmallia Beasley, Stephanie Palmer, Marcellia (Mack) Stephens, and Kaprice Davis; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Earnestine Ester, Debra Doaty, and Lelia (David) Cheatham; brothers, Fred D. (Kathy) Scott Jr., Robert (Brenda) Scott, Mackenzie (Martha) Scott, and Carter Scott; mother-in-law, Mattie Wheeler; brothers-in-law, Benjamin James, Calvin James, Lawrence James and Arthur-Lee (Brenda) Wheeler; sister-in-law Brenda Ingol; cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
