Tobey was born on July 11, 1983 in Cleveland, Ohio to Erika Lynn Simmons.
He had a very difficult and painful early childhood. Some of which was caused by his being larger in size than most other children his age. There was even marked prejudice in some of his classes in school. His hardships were, however, made less painful by his association with his “TARKINGTON CREW” made up of his brothers Eric and Antoine and his friends Cardene (deceased), Buford, Craig, Ricky (deceased), J.B., Marty, and Devin.
Tobey had a wonderful voice and sang with a choir at his Middle School. He enjoyed Basketball and Football and participated in those sports during his High School days. He dropped out of school in 2002, but rapidly acquired his G.E.D.
Tobey confessed Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and served as Armour Bearer to Bishop Glenn Curtis Frazier of Abundant Life Christian Center. Then later, at seventeen joined New Spirit Revival Center under the leadership of Dr. Darrell and Belinda Scott. where he was a member until his death.
Tobey’s occupation was in the Security Industry where his large size was a benefit. He particularly enjoyed his job at the 228 Lounge, where he worked for years until his death.
He has been called a “Gentle Giant” and anyone who knew him knew he took security seriously and protected and helped those he felt responsible for on the job, just as in his personal life. The children loved him and he loved them. But he had another nickname and it was recognized that that nickname also was well earned as the saying “Don’t start nothing and it won’t be nothing” could be applied. That nickname was “BEAST MODE”
Additionally, Tobey had recently become employed by Fed-X.
Tobey leaves to cherish his memory: his mother Erika, his grandfather Freddie L. Simmons, brothers Eric L. Simmons, Antoine Shealy, Great Aunt, Rosemary Jones, Great uncles, Leon R Simmons (Lucy), William Simmons (Mary), Aunt Vicki Simmons, Susannah Simmons, Aunt Christol Edwards, and Uncle Freddie Simmons along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. And a special friend Tiawana Brass.
