With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Veronia Young, who departed this world on February 5, 2025, at the age of 94.
Born on July 13, 1930, in a humble saddlebag house on a hill in Davy, West Virginia, Veronia was the beloved daughter of George L. and Lillie M. (Hairston) Parsons. She was one of seven siblings: George Jr., Inez, Loise, Elnora, Ada, and Jacqueline.
Veronia married the love of her life, Willie M. Young Sr., and together they built a home and legacy in Cleveland, Ohio, where they resided for over 60 years until his passing. Their love was a quiet, enduring partnership, filled with evenings watching sports together and peaceful moments enjoying the outdoors from the porch.
She was a devoted mother to Willie Jr. “Billy”, Ronnie, Sandra “Sandy”, Garnett (Barbara), and Veronica “Baby Doll”. Her family grew to include three cherished grandchildren: Reginald “Reggie”, Christopher “Scottie”, and Stephanie (Anthony) Captain, and five great-grandchildren: Ebony, King, Addison, Adrienne, and Caius.
A longtime member of Greater Friendship Baptist Church, Veronia served faithfully as an usher, welcoming all with warmth and kindness. Throughout her life, she held various jobs, including positions with General Motors and the United States Postal Service, and dedicated her time to volunteering in the community and local schools.
Veronia was well-respected, strong-willed, and never shy about speaking her mind. She had a sassy yet loving spirit, always ensuring that those she cared for were supported and cared for in return. A talented baker and seamstress, she found joy in crafting, cooking, and sharing her gifts with others. A devoted mother and grandmother to many, she was a constant presence at family events, games, and celebrations-cheering the loudest and loving the hardest.
She succumbed to Alzheimer’s, but not before leaving an unforgettable legacy of strength, love, and service. Her passion for life, family, and community will forever be remembered, and her presence will be deeply missed.
Though she has left this earthly home, Veronia’s spirit lives in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the flowers she adored.
